What beats what
With a bit of understanding of the hands, you can figure out the hierarchy and determine which hand beats the rest.
From the table, you can see that a royal flush is clearly the best hand in poker. However, the probability of a player getting a royal flush is quite rare; but if they have it, they are deemed as clear winners.
Similarly, let’s look at the straight hands. If all the cards in your hand are in consecutive order, you have a straight hand regardless of which suit they belong to. However, if the cards belong to the same suit, you have a straight flush, and it is superior to the straight hand.
A high card is obviously the weakest in the ranking as it can be outranked by one pair; two cards are better than one. This rule, however, does not apply in the case of four of a kind as it is considered superior to straight, where the same ranking numbers are regarded to be a stronger hand than the five-card straight hand, even if they are four in number.
